Senate Bill 9 AN ACT
RELATING TO STATE GOVERNMENT; AUTHORIZING THE JOINT LEGISLATIVE BUDGET COMMITTEE AND THE ARIZONA LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL TO ACCEPT AND EX PEND PUBLIC AND PRIVATE GIFTS AND GRANTS; AMENDING TITLE 41, CHAPTER 7, ARTICLE 10, ARI ZONA REVISED STATUTES, BY ADDING SECTION 41-1274, AND AMENDING TITLE 41, CHAPTER 8, ARTI CLE 1, ARIZONA REVISED STATUTES, BY ADDING SEC TION 41-1304.04.
Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Ariwna!
Section 1. PURPOSE
The enactment of this bill will permit the Arizona legislative council and the joint legislative budget committee to accept and expend public and private gifts and grants. Many state agencies already have this authority and in the past few years the need for legislative research in many areas of public concern has become apparent. Enactment would permit in-depth research in areas of concern to the legislature with a minimum of expense to the state.
Sec. 2. Title 41, chapter 7, article 10, Arizona Revised Statutes, is amended by adding section 41-1274, to read:
41-1274. AUTHORITY TO ACCEPT AND EXPEND IN THE NAME OF THE LEGISLATURE PUBLIC AND PRIVATE GIFTS AND GRANTS
THE JOINT LEGISLATIVE BUDGET COMMITTEE MAY ACCEPT AND EXPEND IN THE NAME OF THE LEGISLA TURE PUBLIC AND PRIVATE GIFTS AND GRANTS.
Sec. 3. Title 41, chapter 8, article 1, Arizona Revised Statutes, is amended by adding section 41-1304.04, to read:
41-1304.04. AUTHORITY TO ACCEPT AND EXPEND IN THE NAME OF THE LEGISLATURE PUBLIC AND PRIVATE GIFTS AND GRANTS
THE ARIZONA LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL MAY ACCEPT AND EXPEND IN THE NAME OF THE LEGISLATURE PUB LIC AND PRIVATE GIFTS AND GRANTS.
Sec. 4. EMERGENCY
To preserve the public peace, health and safety 1t 1s necessary that this act become immediately operative. It is therefore declared to be an emergency measure, to take effect as provided by law.
